Over the past few months, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has commanded the attention of the entire world – and rightfully so. As of this post, over 169,000 people have been infected with the virus and those numbers continue to climb each day. Here in the United States, health experts warn that things will get much worse before they get better.

Some states – including Pennsylvania and neighboring Ohio – have taken drastic measures that include shutting down bars and restaurants, cancelling major events, and forcing folks to work from home. The response to this global pandemic is unlike anything any of us have seen in our lifetime.

Locally, our elected officials have started to implement plans for self-quarantine in our communities. On Sunday night, the CDC recommended suspending gatherings of 50 or more people. Our dedicated patrons know that our weekly bingo draws a crowd much larger than that. After careful consideration and in an abundance of caution, we’ve made the decision to suspend our Friday Night Bingo until further notice.

We are not putting a timeframe on this suspension because the situation is fluid. We will continue to seek counsel and follow the guidance of the healthcare community.

Our number one priority is public safety. It’s what we do. The brave men and women of our department put their lives on the line every day for that mission. The decision to suspend our Friday Night Bingo was difficult one, but at the same time, an easy one. We will always take the side of public safety.

Please stay tuned to our social media platforms for updates in the days and weeks to come. Until then, please stay safe, wash your hands, and continue following the recommendations of the healthcare community. Thank you for your support!

Have you ever considered joining your local volunteer fire company? Do you have the drive to help your community and serve your neighbors?

Undercliff VFC is always looking for new members to join our family. We have two classes of membership here at Undercliff. We offer both firefighter and business member classes of membership. All firefighters receive FREE training from the company and are on the front lines to help people in their time of need. Our business members help raise the funds we need to purchase life saving equipment for our firefighters and also help with the day to day administrative roles here.

The following video was filmed, edited, and directed entirely by our members. It shows just what it is like to be a member here at Undercliff VFC and what it means to our members. We ask everyone to take 10 minutes and learn a little more about your local volunteer fire company. We can always use new members and encourage anyone out there that is on the fence about join to give it a try!

Feel free stop by any Monday to Friday night to talk to us and pick up an application. You can also message us directly with any questions. There has never been a better time to getting solved and volunteers are definitely needed!

Undercliff VFC closed out 2019 with 431 calls for service. These calls can range anywhere from working fires, car accidents, odor investigations, fire alarms, flooding calls, and many many more. We do not run and QRS or medical calls here so these are strictly fire service calls. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week we are here to protect our residents and businesses. As you can imagine running all these calls takes a lot of time and dedication from our members and they do it all for free. We receive no tax funding here at Undercliff and rely strictly on fundraising as our main source of revenue.

Thank you again to everyone who supported us this past year. Whether you came to our bingo, bought one of our raffle tickets, or supported our annual fund drive, we could not do it without you! All the money we raise goes back towards our mission of providing first class emergency services to our residents and businesses.

We look forward to your continued support and to serving you in 2020!

As 2019 comes to a close, we have a lot to look back on and reflect on over the last year here at Undercliff VFC. It was an extremely busy year for us at our station. Through all the emergency calls, trainings, classes, and fundraisers, our members dedicated thousands of hours towards protecting our community. It is important to mention that they do all of this FOR FREE and are 100% volunteer. Below are some milestones for the Undercliff VFC for the year 2019:

-We had new members either complete or start their training at the Allegheny County Fire Academy

-We completed all the necessary classes to become a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT)

-We had many members complete their driver’s training on various vehicles within the company

-Our members completed a combined 2,000 HOURS of training both in house and out of station classes

-We took in quite a few new members this past year allowing us to grow

These are just a few quick accomplishments from the past year, but there are also many more. We could not be more proud of our members and their hard work ethic. The following video our 2019 "Year in Review Video” that is made in house. This video is debuted each year at our annual Christmas Party and has become a fund tradition for everyone to look forward to. It show cases some of the hard work and fun times that occur each day here at Undercliff VFC. Take a couple minutes and enjoy this video as we look back on the year 2019.

Lastly, a big THANK YOU goes out to all of you! We could not do what we do if it wasn’t for the support of our residents and families. Your generosity and support allows us to keep our doors open and continue to serve the community that we love so much. So thank you again for everything! Please be safe tonight in all your New Year’s celebrations!
